Website

Lizzie Vickery was born and raised in North Vancouver, B.C. She left the mountains of the Canadian west coast to attend Ryerson University in Toronto, where she earned her degree in Photography in 2007. Her work aims to create narratives by using scale-model objects to craft scenes that comment on our current state of modern living. These still life photographs contain themes of adult experiences, visually contradicted by implied naïve associations to the objects pictured. Lizzie's work has been exhibited in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Boston and Vancouver and featured in The Toronto StarApplied ArtsThe WalrusHome & Decor and in the Magenta Foundation's Flash Forward books in 2008 and 2010. Lizzie is excited to be spending September 2010 at the Elsewhere Artists Collaborative in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Minor Occurrences

When we play as children, we play with idealism. We play as we should, imagining stories about the lives we wish to someday have; tales of falling in love and family life, going camping in the corvette and eating dinner around a perfectly set dining table. As we learn and grow, humanity reveals its increasingly quirky and chaotic nature, everyday making us understand that our childhood goals of perfection may have been unrealistic. These constructed miniature scenes tell the tale of an incident in a fictitious characters life. Not the flawless lives we had once imagined, but the messy, ironic and inconclusive realities of becoming a grown-up.
