Looking at Contemporary Art Can Be a Perplexing Affair, 2009
from the series Yellow Faces
Taken from my series Yellow Faces, “Looking at Contemporary Art Can be a Perplexing Affair” is a more humorous take on an otherwise dark series. The picture looks at our ambiguous relationship with contemporary art. Contemporary art here is seen as playful yet disconnected from our experiences, it towers over us with hidden secrets that the characters in the picture try to discern.
Yellow Faces is a new series I’m working on that charts my slip into unfamiliar and at times scary realisations. Centered around art museums, churches for the spiritually un-fulfilled, where one can find humanity in its many guises. What does is mean to be human? What are we humans? The more people I meet, each acting on seemingly different levels, makes it hard for me to discern and only intensifies the feeling of “yellow faces” that I have embodied.
