These shapes are made by hand from paper, there is no digital manipulation. Shadows fall on the wrong side, focus is inverted, forms are upside down and create a glow as if the light is from within a cube. In the tradition of Sol Lewitt, Rachel Whiteread and Thomas Demand these images question perception in the 21st digital century. I believe perspective derives meaning; one’s history, context and experience contruct what we see. Today, many of our opinions are made up from our digital participation. Algorythms shape what we are presented which ultimately influences our thoughts and subsequent decisions. These shapes are photographed inside out but when loaded into Google Image Search, the digital world interprets these as cubes and cannot see what is really there. We live in an era where fiction is reality and truth is hard to perceive.
Each artwork is custom framed in a wood frame with D-rings for installation. Framing is completed in Toronto, Canada.
