PJ Leroux is a photo-based artist from the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation, located in Golden Lake, Ontario. Leroux's work combines performance, photography and custom-built lighting to capture members of his community in their traditional regalia. The series was born from pure experimentation, with the intent to gather his friends together to just play around and have fun. The resulting artworks are individual expressions of optimism, and are meant to capture the spirit of collaboration, and experimentation. This work is an evolution of Leroux's practise as an artist, where he honed his technical prowess as a photographer by capturing the natural beauty and landscapes of the region. As Leroux describes "luck, patience, persistence and friends who believe in the strengths of their friendships. That is what these pictures represent."
